TEEN debutant Phoebe Litchfield and returning skipper Meg Lanning have starred to help guide Australia to a first up win in its ODI series against Pakistan.

Litchfield’s 78 not out, combined with Lanning’s 67 saw the Aussies over the line after rain delayed the start of the match.

Litchfield became the first teenage debutant to hit an One Day International half century as she had a debut game to remember.

With the match reduced to 40 overs due to the rain delay and after winning the toss, the Australians sent the Pakistanis in, and got reward early when Darcie Brown dismissed Muneeba Ali Siddiqui in the second over.

The Pakistanis continued to struggle to get big partnerships going and they were their own worst enemy at times as silly mistakes cost them a chance at big partnerships.

They eventually made 8/160 from their 40 overs, with veteran Nida Dar top scoring with 59.

It would have been even less if the Aussies had not bowled so poorly. They conceded 27 extras, which included a whopping 23 wides.

For the Aussies, it was Brown and Jess Jonassen who were the pick of the bowlers.

Brown picked up 2/21 from her four overs, which did include a maiden, while Jonassen took 2/23 from her eight overs and also bowled a maiden.

The Australian chase got off to a start even more wobbly than their visitors endured, with Beth Mooney dismissed on the fifth ball of the innings.

The Australians then did not lose any more wickets for 137 runs, as Lanning and Litchfield got to work to chase down the target.

Lanning got dismissed in the 28th over, but by then the job was done.

Litchfield capped off a memorable debut by hitting the winning runs as the Australians won by eight runs via the Duckworth-Lewis method in the following over.

The second match of the series is tomorrow in Brisbane.
