U19 World Cup Day 5 Wrap – First half of next stage decided
DAY 5’s results at the Under 19 World Cup may have gone largely as people would have expected, but they were no less defining. Day 6’s results also mean half of our teams that will be progressing to the next stage of the tournament, with Bangladesh, Australia, Sri Lanka, India, South Africa and the UAE all progressing.
Group A
Australia finishes second with dominant win
Australia has finished second in Group A with a dominant 108 run win over Sri Lanka. After the Aussies posted 5/159, they then bowled Sri Lanka out for a mere 51 to secure a comfortable win. Despite posting the very competitive score, no one really dominated with the bat for Australia.
It was all the bowlers, with every bowler used picking up at least one wicket and Maggie Clark and Lucy Hamilton picking up two. Meanwhile Rismi Sanjana was a shining light for Sri Lanka, picking up the two wickets.
Bangladesh finish undefeated, top group
In what has perhaps been the surprise of the tournament thus far, Bangladesh have finished the initial stage of the tournament undefeated and on top of Group A after defeating the USA by five wickets.
After the US posted 4/103, the Bangladeshis reached the target with two and half overs to spare. Bangladeshi captain Disha Biswas topped the wicket tally for her side with two, while Aditiba Chudasama also picked up two for the US.
These results mean Bangladesh, Australia and Sri Lanka progress to the Super 6s stage, while the USA will play one last consolation match before heading home.
Group D
India stay undefeated to send Scots packing
India have kept their undefeated record in tact and sent Scotland packing with an 85 run win over the Scots. Posting a very competitive 4/151, India then bowled Scotland out for a mere 66.
Mannat Kashyap (four wickets), Archana (three wickets) and Sonam Yadav (two wickets) all starred with the ball for India, while G Trisha led the way with the bat with 57. Meanwhile for Scotland Katherine Fraser picked up two wickets.
South Africa keep winning momentum going
In Group D’s other match it was South Africa who prevailed, downing the UAE by 45 runs. South Africa only posted 7/112 off their 20 overs, but it was enough as the UAE could only manage 67 before being bowled out.
It was the bowlers who really starred for both sides, with Miane Smit picking up four wickets for the South Africans and Ayanda Hlubi and Seshnie Naidu picking up two each, while Indhuja Nandakumar, Vaishnave Mahesh and Lavanya Keny all picked up two each for the UAE.
These results mean India, South Africa and the UAE progress to the Super 6s stage, while Scotland will play one last consolation match before heading home.
