Aussies dominate to clean sweep series
THE Aussie Women’s cricket team has completed a clean sweep of its One Day International series with Pakistan after defeating the tourists by 101 runs in the third match of the series.
After being sent into bat, the Aussies lost Phoebe Litchfield early but that was well and truly forgotten after Meg Lanning and Beth Mooney got to work. Lanning and Player of the Match Mooney put on a 160 run second wicket partnership to really set the standard for what was to come from the Australians.
The runs did not stop coming for the Australians even after Lanning was dismissed, and although no other partnerships got close to matching that one there were still a number of other decent sized partnerships. The Australians ultimately finished on 9/336 from their 50 overs, with Mooney finishing up on 133 and Lanning on 72.
Meanwhile for the visitors Fatima Sana was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Diana Baig and Nida Dar both picked up two. Pakistan made a slow but steady start to its chase, taking almost 14 overs to lose its first wicket but it only had 61 on the board when Sadaf Shamas fell.
This slow start ultimately cost the Pakistanis, as they just ran out of overs to reach the required rate, despite putting up a solid effort to try and chase down the mammoth tally. Not even sloppy bowling from the Australians, who conceded a whopping 25 wides among a total extras tally of 33, could help the Pakistanis as they finished on 7/235 from their 50 overs.
Bismah Maroof topped the run tally with 33, with Sidra Amin made 34. Meanwhile for the Aussies it was Ash Gardner who topped the wicket tally with three, while Jess Jonassen picked up two.
The action is far from done between the two sides, with a T20 series between the two countries getting underway this week.
