U19 World Cup Day 9 Wrap – Surprises keep coming

DAY 9 at the Under 19 World Cup saw the continuation of the Super 6s stage of the tournament, but not everything went as expected.

Group 1

Rwanda cause another upset

Rwanda has caused its second upset of the tournament, defeating the West Indies by four wickets.

After bowling the West Indies out for just 70, the Rwandans cut it fine but reached the target with ten balls to spare.

Gisele Ishimwe top scored for the Rwandans with 31, but it was the bowlers who were the real stars of the show.

Sylvia Usabyimana and Marie Josee Tumukunde both took four wickets, while Zurufat Ishimwe took two.

Group 2

India bounce back in dominant win

India bounced back from its first loss of the tournament the day before with a dominant seven wicket win over neighbours Sri Lanka.

After India restricted the Sri Lankans to 9/59 from their 20 overs, India only needed just over seven overs to get the job done.

Although Soumya Tiwari (28 not out) scored half of India’s total by herself, unsurprisingly it was the bowlers who were the star of the show for the Indians.

Parshavi Chopra picked up four wickets, while Mannat Kashyap picked up two.

Meanwhile Dewmi Vihanga Wijerathne picked up all three wickets for the Sri Lankans.
