U19 World Cup Day 10 Wrap – Some progress, others sent home
DAY 10 at the Under 19 World Cup saw some countries get their Super 6s stage started, while others finished theirs up.
Group 1
Australia dominates UAE, end UAE’s progression chances
Australia continued its upward trajectory of form overnight with a comprehensive six wicket win over the UAE.
After the UAE posted 8/107 from their 20 overs, the Australians took the slow and steady approach but still reached the target with just under five overs left.
Kate Pelle (51) scored almost half of Australia’s runs by herself, while Maggie Clark picked up three wickets and both Amy Smith and Lucy Hamilton picked up two wickets.
Meanwhile for the UAE Lavanya Keny picked up two wickets and Theertha Satish (58) scored over half of her team’s total.
This result means that Australia are just about qualified for the Semi Finals, while although it still has one game to go, the UAE can no longer make the next stage of the tournament.
The only way the Australians cannot make the next stage of the tournament is if South Africa claim a significant win over Sri Lanka tonight.
Group 2
Pakistan thrash Ireland, send Irish home
Pakistan has picked up another solid win, this time over Ireland.
After restricting Ireland to 7/113, the Pakistanis took the slow and steady approach but still had two and a half overs spare when they reached the target.
Syeda Aroob Shah topped the run tally for Pakistan with 35, but the bowlers were the stars with Anosha Nasir and Rida Aslam both picking up two wickets.
Meanwhile for the Irish not even a 55 not out from Annabel Squires was enough to see the Irish over the line.
This result sees Pakistan still with a slim chance to make the next stage and sees Ireland’s tournament come to an end.
Pakistan’s final Super 6 stage game is against New Zealand, and if it beats the Kiwis, it will come down to net run rate to see who progresses to the semi finals. However New Zealand’s run rate is far better than Pakistan’s at the moment, so Pakistan would have to absolutely thrash New Zealand to have any hope of progressing.
