Pakistan on the board as India wins again at World Cup
IT was a good day for neighbours India and Pakistan overnight at the World Cup, with both sides picking up wins. Pakistan notched its first of the tournament after downing Ireland, while India earned its second after breezing past the West Indies.
India does it easy against West Indies
India remains undefeated in the T20 World Cup after beating the West Indies by six wickets.
The West Indians chose to bat first, but were only able to conjure 6/118 from their 20 overs. When they lost their first wicket seven balls in with only four runs on the board, it was a sign of things to come.
A 73-run second wicket partnership between Stafanie Taylor (42) and Shemaine Campbelle (30) was the only substantial stand of the innings, with no other West Indies batters able to make much of a start.
Meanwhile for the Indians, Deepti Sharma was the star with the ball, picking up 3/15 from her four overs.
The Indians certainly took their time to chase down the tally, but were still able to surpass it with 11 balls to spare.
Richa Ghosh (44 not out) made the bulk of the score, but was ably assisted by the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur (33).
Karishma Ramharack was the only multiple wicket taker for the West Indies, picking up two.
Opener creates history to get Pakistan on the board
Pakistan picked up its first win of the 2023 T20 World Cup after defeating Ireland by 70 runs.
After they were sent in to bat, the Pakistanis made a very competitive 5/165 from their 20 overs.
Muneeba Ali made history at the top of the order, becoming the first Pakistani to notch a century in a women’s T20 international, with her 68-ball 102.
In stark contrast, Nida Dar was the only other Pakistani batter to make a double-figure score, which goes to show how much trouble Pakistan would have been in without Muneeba.
Arlene Kelly picked up two wickets for Ireland, while Leah Paul and Laura Delany snared one apiece.
In reply, Ireland was 1/8 after two overs, and it really was a sign of things to come.
Only three Irish batters made a double-figure score as the Emerald Isle side was bowled out for a mere 95 halfway through the 17th over.
Orla Prendergast was the best of the Irish batters with 31, while Eimear Richardson made 28.
Nashra Sandhu was the chief destroyer with the ball for Pakistan with four wickets, while Dar and Sadia Iqbal both picked up two.
