THE Aussies were the stars of the show for both sides overnight in Mumbai as the Delhi Capitals continued their high-scoring undefeated start to the season with a 42-run win over the UP Warriorz.
The Capitals made a whopping 4/211 from their 20 overs, before restricting the Warriorz to the still competitive 5/169 from their 20 overs.
Although the Capitals began with a solid 67-run opening stance inside six and a half overs, it was the 67 run fifth wicket partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Jess Jonassen that really catapulted the Capitals to their remarkable total.
Earlier it was Meg Lanning who whacked 70 off 42 balls to get the innings going before Jonassen’s 42 not out from only 20 balls really ensured the Capitals were in a strong position come the chase.
The Warriorz did not have any multiple wicket takers, with Tahlia McGrath, Shabnim Ismail, Sophie Ecclestone and Rajeshwari Gayakwad all taking one wicket each.
The Warriorz made a somewhat quickfire start to their chase, but once Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp combined to take three wickets across two consecutive overs, that really halted the Warriorz momentum.
Although the Warriorz accelerated in the back end of the innings (scoring 49 runs across the last 3.1 overs) and despite McGrath’s best efforts with the bat, the Warriorz were no doubt regretting not selecting Grace Harris for the game as they ran out of time to reach the target.
McGrath’s 90 from 50 balls was by far the stand out performance for her side, but earlier slow goings really cost the Warriorz in the end.
Meanwhile for the Capitals Jonassen was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, but she was the only multiple wicket taker for the entire match as Kapp and Shikha Pandey each took one of the other two wickets.
