Sixers and spinners star as UP picks up handy win

TWO Sydney Sixers openers may have been among the stars for their respective sides overnight in the Women’s Premier League, but only one came away smiling as the UP Warriorz defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 10 wickets.

After the Royal Challengers were bowled out for 138 with three balls left in their innings, the Warriorz’s openers did it easy, reaching the target after only 13 overs.

Ellyse Perry was by far the star for the Royal Challengers, posting 52 from only 39 balls, and without her the Royal Challengers would have been in even more serious trouble. For context, the next highest score for the Royal Challengers was Sophie Devine’s 36.

The Royal Challengers did not even have the help of bad bowling from the Warriorz, with the Warriorz not even conceding one extra. Speaking of the Warriorz’s bowlers, Sophie Ecclestone was the star with four wickets, while Deepti Sharma took three wickets.

In reply, it was pretty easy for UP’s openers Devika Vaidya and skipper Alyssa Healy. Healy blasted 96 not out from only 47 balls while Vaidya chipped in with 36 to ensure that their side got a very handy win in the context of the season.

The win ensures the Warriorz move up to third on the table, with only run rate separating them and second placed Delhi. The Royal Challengers on the other hand are in a real spot of bother, anchored to the bottom of the table with no wins to their name as of yet.

The Royal Challengers have the weekend to regroup before they go again on Tuesday morning Australian time against the Capitals.

UP on the other hand have one less day’s break before their next match, with the Warriorz set to take on top of the table Mumbai on Monday morning Australian time.
