THE shock results just kept coming overnight in the Women’s Premier League, and the UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bangalore both upset their more fancied opponents.
Undefeated Indians no more as UP dominate
The UP Warriorz have ended the Mumbai Indians’ undefeated run as the Warriorz dominated with the ball to win by five wickets. The Indians were bowled out for 127, and although the Warriorz took their sweet time to reach the modest total, still did so with three balls to spare.
Only three batters made a double figure score for Mumbai – with Hayley Matthews’ 35 the best of the bunch, and only one further batter outscored the modest extras tally of five. Meanwhile for the Warriorz, it was Sophie Ecclestone who was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while both Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad took two wickets.
In reply the Warriorz got off to a bit of a shaky start, but it did not matter in the end as they were able to prevail and get the job done. Grace Harris top scored with 39, while for the Indians Amelia Kerr was the only multi wicket taker with two to her name.
Devine performance from Sophie sees big score no challenge for the Royal Challengers
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have notched up their second win of the tournament after they downed the Gujarat Giants by eight wickets.
The Giants made a competitive tally of 4/188 from their 20 overs, but it was no match for the Royal Challengers’ top order as they romped home in the 16th over. Laura Wolvaardt was the star with the bat for the Giants as she posted a 42 ball 68 run innings that included nine fours and two sixes. Ash Gardner also had a good game with the bat, making 41 off only 26 balls.
Meanwhile for the Royal Challengers, it was Shreyanka Patil who was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets. In reply a 125 opening run stand between Sophie Devine and captain Smriti Mandhana set the tone for the way the innings was going to go.
Devine would go on to be the outright star of the show, smashing 99 off a mere 36 balls before being caught. Her innings included nine fours and a whopping eight sixes.
