THE inaugural Women’s Premier League season continues to throw up the surprises, with results overnight meaning that with one match left, there is still so much to play for.
Dashing Delhi give Mumbai second loss in a row
After a formidable start to the season, the Mumbai Indians have now lost two on the trot, this time going down to Delhi by nine wickets.
After restricting the Indians to 8/109 from their 20 overs, Delhi only needed nine overs to reach the tally.
The Indians found themselves at 3/10 halfway through the fourth over and never recovered from there. Pooja Vastrakar was their top scorer with 26, but she was only one of four batters to make a double figure score.
Meanwhile for the Capitals, Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey and Jess Jonassen all picked up two wickets each.
The Capitals then had a quick start to their chase, piling on 56 runs inside four and a half overs, before Alice Capsey came in and blasted five sixes in her 17 ball, 38 run innings to get the job done.
Meanwhile for Mumbai, Hayley Matthews was the only one to find success with the ball, picking up that sole wicket.
Gujarat bows out with loss to UP
Gujarat has finished up its inaugural season in a less than ideal fashion, going down to the UP Warriorz by three wickets in a tight finish.
After Gujarat posted a very competitive 6/178 from its 20 overs, it ultimately was not enough as the Warriorz managed to reach the tally with one ball to spare in their innings.
Ash Gardner was the star of the Gujarat batting innings, smashing 60 off only 39 balls, which included three sixes and six fours.
Dayalan Hemalatha also starred with 57 off 33, which also included three sixes and six fours.
Meanwhile for UP it was Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Parshavi Chopra who were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets each.
In UP’s chase, it was a pair of Aussies who starred to get the side over the line, with Grace Harris making 72 off only 41 balls (which included four sixes and seven fours) and Tahlia McGrath made 57 from only 38 balls (which included 11 fours).
Fellow Aussie Kim Garth was the pick of Gujarat’s bowlers, picking up two wickets in her spell.
