THE GROUP games of inaugural Women’s Premier League finished up overnight, and with wins to Mumbai and Delhi, an exciting finals series is all set and ready to go.
Mumbai halts losing run
After two consecutive losses, the Mumbai Indians are back on the winners list after downing the Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets.
After the Royal Challengers posted 9/125 from their 20 overs, the Indians reached the tally with 21 balls to spare.
The Royal Challengers lost their first wicket after three balls and with only one run on the board, which was ultimately a sign of things to come.
Only five batters made a double figure score, with Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh’s 29 apiece the highest scores of the bunch.
Meanwhile for Mumbai, Amelia Kerr picked up three wickets, while Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Issy Wong both picked up two each.
In reply the Indians had a much better start, making 53 off six overs for their first wicket partnership, and built from there, reaching the target halfway through over 17.
Kerr was again the best for Mumbai, making 31 not out, while Kanika Ahuja was the best of Bangalore’s bowlers with two wickets to her name.
Delhi wins again, secures top
The Delhi Capitals have rounded out their group stage with a fairly comfortable five wicket win over the UP Warriorz, and in doing so have booked their place in the tournament final and skip the Eliminator Final.
After restricting the Warriorz to 6/138 from their 20 overs, Delhi reached the target with 13 balls to spare.
Tahlia McGrath was the star for the Warriorz with the bat, blasting 58 not out off just 32 balls, in an innings that included eight fours and two sixes.
Meanwhile for the Capitals, it was Alice Capsey who was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Radha Yadav picked up two.
In reply, tidy knocks from Meg Lanning (39), Capsey (34) and Marizanne Kapp (34 not out) ensured Delhi was able to reach the target fairly comfortably.
On the flipside, Shabnim Ismail was the pick of the bowlers for the Warriorz, picking up two scalps.
