2023/24 WNCL Preview: Season Preview
THE time has come. Tomorrow it all begins – another season of WNCL is upon us.
The 2023/24 WNCL season kicks off tomorrow, and with all the hype and buzz surrounding women’s cricket and women’s sport in general at the moment, the excitement is certainly in the air.
With no men’s cricket at the moment to take away coverage time, it is also an exciting time for all involved to show how good women’s cricket can be.
There has not been too much turnover in the offseason, and even less big names moving states, so all teams can really build on where they left off last season.
However, the question that remains is can anyone stop Tasmania? The Tigers are once again the team to beat this season after going back to back last summer, and with even more fire power in their line up this season, they are a strong chance to compete for the title yet again.
In saying that, they still have to wait a few more weeks before they can get back out on the park, with their campaign not kicking off until early October.
One interesting team to watch this season will be South Australia. The Scorpions have come runners up to Tasmania in back to back seasons now, so can they finally break the drought and go one better?
Then there are the teams that were stronger in the past but are in a bit of a youth led rebuilt, like NSW, Queensland and Victoria. Can they get back to the height of their glory days this season?
Finally, there is the ACT and Western Australia, who have been starved of success for a long time now but can they bridge the gap to the rest of the competition this season?
No matter what happens this season, there is sure to be plenty of excitement and talent on display.
The season starts this week, but will take a break in October and November for the WBBL, before returning in December.
