DAY 2 of WBBL09 saw two very different results, but it was a good day for the visitors as the Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers were the ones to emerge victorious.
Heat win nailbiter
The Brisbane Heat were made to fight for their first up win over the Melbourne Renegades, but ultimately emerged with a narrow six-run win.
The Heat batted first and made 9/187 from their 20 overs, before some pretty tight bowling and regular wicket falls ensured the Renegades could only make 8/181 from their 20 overs.
It was the openers who top scored for the Heat in the runs department, with both Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne making 49 runs each. Meanwhile in the bowling department it was new English recruit Sarah Glenn who led the way with four wickets to her name, while Charli Knott picked up three and skipper Jess Jonassen one.
Meanwhile for the Renegades Georgia Wareham top scored with 36 while new English recruit Tammy Beaumont made 34. Over in the bowling cartel skipper Hayley Matthews picked up three wickets, while Sarah Coyte picked up two wickets.
Perth Scorchers Hobart to make statement
The Perth Scorchers have made a statement in their first up win over Hobart, dismantling the Hurricanes to win by 98 runs. After posting 4/186 from their 20 overs, the Scorchers ripped through the Hurricanes line up to dismiss them for merely 88.
From a batting perspective, Sophie Devine really led the way for the Scorchers with 87 not out to her name. The next highest Scorchers’ individual tally was 27, so without Devine the Scorchers would have been in real trouble. From a bowling perspective it was Alana King who starred with three wickets to her name, while Chloe Ainsworth on debut and Stella Campbell on club debut both picked up two wickets each.
It really was a batting disaster for the Hurricanes, with only Molly Strano (37) and Ruth Johnston (15) to make a double figure score with the bat. Strano also picked up a wicket, as did Maisy Gibson and Heather Graham.
