Big wins, small wins across the boards in WBBL

YESTERDAY’S action in the WBBL saw a bowling masterclass in one match, and a nailbiter in the other.

Perry masterclass sees Sixers defeat Renegades

The Sydney Sixers have picked up their second win of WBBL09 with a seven wicket win over the Melbourne Renegades.

After the Renegades were bowled out for 104, the Sixers reached the target halfway through the 16th over.

The only one who really got a start for the Renegades was Harmanpreet Kaur, who made 47. Only two other Renegades’ batters made a double figure score.

The chief destroyer of the Renegades was Ellyse Perry, who took 5/22 from her almost four overs.

Lauren Cheatle and Linsey Smith each picked up two wickets.

The Sixers had a bit of a wobbly start to their chase, losing two wickets inside the first two overs, but recovered and put on some big partnerships to take the win. The most crucial partnership was the 62-run third-wicket partnership between Perry and Erin Burns. Perry ultimately made 44 not out while Burns made 32.

Meanwhile for the Renegades it was the youth who stood up and picked up the wickets, with Sara Kennedy picking up two and Ella Hayward picking up one.

Strikers survive nailbiter

The Adelaide Strikers almost came unstuck against the Perth Scorchers, but ultimately recorded a six-wicket win.

After Perth made 7/165, the Strikers reached the target off the very last ball of the innings.

Natalie Sciver-Brunt was the star of the Perth innings, making 53 to be a real backbone of the innings.

Everyone else got smaller starts but really could not get going to the level of the Englishwoman.

On the flipside Amanda-Jade Wellington starred with the ball for the visitors, picking up three wickers, while Megan Schutt picked up two wickets and Tahlia McGrath picked up one.

In the chase it was Katie Mack who starred with the bat, making 71 to help steer the Strikers through the vast majority of the innings.

Meanwhile for the Scorchers Sophie Devine and Amy Edgar were the two wicket takers, picking up one each. Devine also picked up two run outs to her name.
