Hurricanes hammer Renegades in huge win
THE Hobart Hurricanes pulled off a big win in the WBBL last night, smashing the Melbourne Renegades to the tune of 93 runs.
The Hurricanes posted 3/212 from their 20 overs, before bowling the Renegades out for a mere 119.
After a bit of a wobble a quarter of the way through their innings, the Hurricanes never looked back after that, largely thanks to the work of Lizelle Lee and later also Heather Graham. The pair smashed almost three quarters of the final total between them to help really propel the Hurricanes forward to the massive score they ultimately finished with. Lee ended up on 101 not out and Graham finished on 55 not out.
Meanwhile for the Renegades only the Georgias were able to pick up wickets, with Georgia Wareham picking up two and Georgia Prestwidge one.
The Renegades made an okay start to their innings, but once the wickets started to fall they really started to stumble. There were even multiple occasions where the Renegades lost multiple wickets in an over. Emma de Broughe provided some resistance late but ultimately her efforts proved futile as no one else from the Renegades was able to match her in terms of scoring. She went on to finish on 40 not out, but was only one of five batters to make a double figure score and the only one to make it past 20.
Meanwhile for the Hurricanes Maisy Gibson was the star with ball in hand with four wickets to her name, while Amy Smith picked up three, Shabnim Ismail picked up two and Nicola Carey picked up one.
This win keeps the Hurricanes in touch with the top four, but still sit one win outside heading into their last game with the Strikers.
Meanwhile the loss keeps the Renegades firmly planted at the bottom of the table, with only one more match against the Stars left in their season.
