Brisbane continues hot form to move into WBBL decider
BRISBANE Heat have continued their slaying mission through the WBBL09 finals series, defeating the Perth Scorchers by 67 runs to make the WBBL09 Final.
The Heat batted first and made an impressive 5/197, before restricting their hosts to only 8/130.
Much like in the Eliminator the night prior, the Heat got off to a quick start, with openers Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne racing to 69 before Harris fell halfway through the seventh over.
Although no other partnership was quite to that, the partnership were mostly big enough that the Heat could still build and record the huge score that they did, also because the wickets did not fall consistently or quickly.
Harris top scored with 54, while Charli Knott made 32 not out and Amelia Kerr 31.
Meanwhile for the Scorchers the wicket taking duties certainly were not shared around, with only two bowlers picking up wickets. Alana King took three while Natalie Sciver-Brunt picked up two.
The Scorchers did made a very quick start to their innings, but once the first wicket fell momentum really started to slow. By the time the Scorchers made what the Heat had made in the opening partnership they were deeper into their innings and had already lost four wickets.
Ultimately this slow down in momentum meant that the Scorchers, who already had a tough enough task chasing down a massive score, simply ran out of time to reach the target.
Top scorer for Perth was ultimately Sciver-Brunt with her 36.
Meanwhile for Brisbane it was Georgia Voll who was the star with ball in hand, picking up four wickets. Her skipper Jess Jonassen also picked up two wickets.
The win sees the Brisbane Heat progress to Saturday’s final to take on the Adelaide Strikers, while for the Perth Scorchers the loss means their season is over.
