History repeats as Tigers achieve bogie team status over Scorpions
HISTORY has repeated yet again, with Tasmania defeating South Australia in the first WNCL Final replay of the season. After Tasmania made 8/274 from its 50 overs, the Tigers then bowled South Australia out for only 162.
The Tasmanians made a solid enough start to their innings, but really accelerated in the 21st over. This is when Naomi Stalenberg joined Nicola Carey at the crease, and the pair would go on to smash 96 runs off the next 21 overs to give the innings another boost.
Things slowed down again after Stalenberg was dismissed, but the Tigers still scored 52 runs off the next nine and a half overs to post what was a very competitive total.
Carey was the leading light for the Tigers with bat in hand, smashing 11 fours in a total of 113. Stalenberg also made 41, while earlier Lizelle Lee had made 48.
On the flipside, Amanda-Jade Wellington brought her WBBL form back into the WNCL, picking up four wickets to top the wicket tally for the Scorpions.
In reply, the fact that South Australia lost its first wicket eight balls in with only eight runs on the board was a sign of what was to come for the rest of the innings.
They had one partnership of 80 runs for the third wicket, but all other partnerships struggled to reach double figures.
Ultimately the South Australians were bowled out in the 41st over. Josie Dooley was the shining star for the visitors, making 57, while Courtney Webb made 38.
On the other side of the equation, Molly Strano was the star for the Tigers with the ball, taking five scalps. Sasha Moloney also chimed in with two wickets.
South Australia does not have long to wait to exact revenge, with the teams set to play each other again tomorrow.
