Aussies accelerate to series clean sweep
AUSTRALIA has made a clean sweep of its ODI series against India, this time downing the tourists by 190 runs.
After a particularly strong start with the bat for the Australians that was maintained for much of the innings to see the Australians to a monster score, their bowlers then dismantled the Indian batting line up.
The Australian openers had a really strong start for the first time this series, with Phoebe Litchfield and Alyssa Healy putting on a 189-run opening wicket before Healy ultimately fell on the penultimate ball of the 29th over.
There was a bit of a wobble in the middle of the innings, but once again it was the tail end who saved the day, pushing the score beyond the 300-run mark.
The Australians went on to make a whopping 7/338 from their 50 overs. They were helped along thanks to some poor bowling from India, with the hosts conceding 20 wides in a total extras tally of 28.
Litchfield again played a starring role in the innings, this time smashing 16 fours and a six on her way to 119, while Healy smashed three sixes and four fours on her way to 82.
Meanwhile for India, it was Shreyanka Patil who was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets, while Amanjot Kaur took two.
India in reply made an okay start to their innings, going at about one run per ball, but once the first wicket fell the floodgates opened. That 32-run opening partnership would be the largest of the innings as the Indians lost too many wickets too quickly to get any kind of momentum going.
The top scorer would ultimately be opener Smriti Mandhana, with Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma both making 25.
Meanwhile, Georgia Wareham was the chief destroyer with ball in hand for the Australians taking three wickets, while Alana King and Annabel Sutherland both picked up two each.
