Reigning champs still undefeated in the WNCL
TASMANIA has maintained its undefeated start to the WNCL season with a four-wicket win over NSW. After restricting the Breakers to 9/197 from their 50 overs, Tasmania reached the target with just over 14 overs to go and with four wickets in hand.
NSW’s first partnership was only 15 runs, but its second wicket partnership was much better at 51 runs.
However, that would be the largest partnership for a while, before Maitlan Brown and Sammy-Jo Johnson put on 65 runs for the seventh wicket. Although the Breakers skirted the danger of being completely bowled out, they ultimately survived their full 50 overs.
It was Tahlia Wilson who top scored for the Beakers at the top of the order with 41, but the next highest with Johnson with 34.
Meanwhile for the Tigers, it was Amy Smith who was chief destroyer with the ball with five wickets to her name, while Lauren Smith took two wickets.
In reply the Tigers got off to the worst possible start, losing their first wicket on the second ball of the innings without putting a run on the board first.
They quickly turned things around when they put on a 50-run second wicket partnership, but the suffered a few lean partnerships. However, they were able to get back on track and really accelerated with a 104-run fifth wicket partnership.
With the low total in sight, it was not too much longer before the target was reached and the Tigers secured another win. It was Naomi Stalenberg who starred with the bat for the Tigers with 67 not out, while Tabatha Saville made 55.
Meanwhile for NSW Sarah Coyte took three wickets while Brown took two wickets.
NSW does not need to wait too long to exact revenge on the double reigning champions. The two sides take the field against each other again tomorrow.
