Perry’s milestone magic puts Aussies back on track
AUSTRALIA has bounced back from the disappointment of the first T20 with India and given Ellyse Perry a milestone game to remember, downing the hosts by six wickets.
Although the Australians were only chasing 131 for victory, they certainly took their time to reach the target, doing so with six balls to spare.
It did not take long for disaster to strike for India, who lost its first wicket in the second over after only putting four runs on the board.
It was also a sign of what was to come, with wickets continuing to fall and small partnerships proving the order of the day.
The biggest partnership of the entire innings came in the fifth wicket, where Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh put on 33 runs.
Unsurprisingly they were also the top scorers for the hosts, making 30 and 23 respectively, while earlier Smriti Mandhana scored 23.
The wicket taking duties were shared very evenly amongst the Australian bowlers, with Kim Garth, Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham all picking up two wickets.
Although she did not bowl, Perry was still busy in the field, producing two catches and a run out.
The Australians got off to a much better start in their batting innings than the Indians did, putting on a 51-run opening stance.
However, they then only made seven runs in the next two overs before then losing a second wicket.
The pattern then continued for the third and fourth wicket, before Perry and Phoebe Litchfield got the job done with an over to spare. Perry was also the top scorer with an unbeaten 34.
Meanwhile for the Indians, Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Pooja Vastrakar and Shreyanka Patil snared one apiece.
