Australians clinch series with dominant performance
AUSTRALIA has won the third T20 against India by seven wickets to take out the T20 portion of the series and finish the tour off on a high.
After restricting the Indians to 6/147 from their 20 overs, the Australians took their time to reach the target but still made it with eight balls spare.
India actually made a quick start to its innings, going at almost nine runs an over, but once that wicket fell it spelled a few lean partnerships for the hosts.
That opening partnership would ultimately proved to be the most fruitful of the whole innings, with the next biggest being 36 then 33. It would have been an even lower total for India if the Australians had bowled straight, conceding 11 wides in a total extras tally of 15.
Top scorer for the Indians was Richa Ghosh with 34, while Smriti Mandhana made 29.
Meanwhile for the Australians it was Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham who were the pick of the bowlers, both picking up two wickets each.
Australia had a similar start to its innings in terms of run rate, but made 85 runs before losing the first wicket.
They lost their next two wickets cheaply, for 32 and 0 runs respectively, but Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield held strong, avoided being a hattrick victim to get the job done for the Australians. The Indians cannot even blame bad bowling, only conceding five extras.
It was the openers who were the top scorers for Australia. Alyssa Healy smashed nine fours and a six on her way to 55, while Mooney smashed five fours on her way to 52 not out.
On the flipside, for India Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma were the only ones to pick up wickets, picking up two and one wicket respectively.
