Australia secures early finish after dominant Test
AUSTRALIA’s dominant display in the test match against South Africa has been rewarded with the hosts wrapping up proceedings on the penultimate day of the clash. South Africa battled hard on the third day but could not hold on forever, ultimately being fully bowled out for 215 just after tea.
Tazmin Brits and Delmi Tucker continued their determined partnership on day three, but it had to end at 96 runs when Brits fell. Tucker attempted to continue the fight with Chloe Tryon, with the pair then putting on a 47-run partnership, but after Tucker got dismissed, the end was nigh.
In the next 25 overs, the Proteas then lost 5/59 runs to be all dismissed. Tucker and Tryon were the stars with bat-in-hand with 64 runs each, but the next highest behind them was Brits on 31.
Meanwhile for Australia, the wickettaking duties were evenly shared, as Kim Garth, Darcie Brown, Ash Gardner and Annabel Sutherland all ended the innings with two wickets to their name. Ellyse Perry and Alana King also each chipped in with a wicket each.
This test match win also sees Australia take out the overall multi-format series 12 points to four.
It also leaves South Africa with plenty to think about on the way home, and shows where they sit against the best in the world.
