Delhi on the board after big win

THE Delhi Capitals are on the board in the Women’s Premier League this season after defeating the UP Warriorz by nine wickets.

After restricting the Warriorz to 9/119, the Capitals then went on to reach the target halfway through the 15th over.

The Warriorz got off to a poor start and it really cost them in the end. Marizanne Kapp struck three times in the first five overs to have the Warriorz on the back foot and sitting precariously at 3/16 from five overs.

Things just did not really improve from there for those in yellow. The biggest partnership of the entire innings was the 28 run sixth wicket one, as the wickets just continued to tumble. They got a bit close to almost being bowled out, but managed to bat out their overs.

Youngster Shweta Sehrawat was the shining light for the Warriorz, making 45 from 42 balls, which included five fours and a six.

Meanwhile for the Capitals it was actually Radha Yadav who topped the wicket tally, striking later in the innings and picking up four scalps overall.

Things started extremely well for the Capitals, with openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma combining for a 119 run opening stance before Lanning was dismissed. It was not long before the Capitals then reached their tally, with a four the very net ball bringing up the victory.

Verma went on to finish on 64 not out, while Lanning made 51 and Jemimah Rodrigues was the one to hit the winning four.

Meanwhile Sophie Ecclestone was the only one to pick up a wicket for the Warriorz.

The Warriorz’ opponents do not get any easier next game with a match against the Mumbai Indians on the cards, while Delhi have an intriguing battle next up against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
