Mumbai’s marvellous comeback win sees Bangalore easily beaten
MUMBAI Indians have bounced back from their shock loss to the UP Warriorz a couple of days ago to down the Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets overnight. After restricting Bangalore to 6/131, the Indians went on to reach the target in just over 15 overs.
After being sent into bat, the screw was on Bangalore from the get go. The Royal Challengers actually started their innings at the right kind of pace, but once that first wicket fell then the wheels started to fall off.
There was no substantial partnership size until the 52-run sixth wicket partnership, which was sizeable compared to the partnerships of at most 29-runs which came prior.
In a somewhat mirroring way, Ellyse Perry was the only batter for Bangalore that got any kind of score on the board. Her 44 not out from 38 balls stands out from the crowd that is the Bangalore batting card, with most of the other batters making no more than a mid-teens score.
Meanwhile for Mumbai, Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Pooja Vastrakar lead from the front, both picking up two wickets, while Issy Wong and Saika Ishaque chipped in with a wicket each.
In reply, Mumbai went on the offensive early, smashing 45 off just under the first four overs before it lost its first wicket. However, that first wicket signalled a bit of a shift in momentum. The run rate began to drop, and by the time wicket two fell it was down to about a run a ball.
They did manage to rise it back up a little as the innings progressed, and thanks to that earlier fast paced work the Indians still had plenty of a buffer to reach the target, which they did. The pick of the batters was actually Amelia Kerr, who struck seven fours on her way to a quickfire 40 not out from just 24 balls.
For Bangalore the wicket taking duties were very evenly spread, with Sophie Devine, Georgia Wareham and Shreyanka Patil all picking up a scalp.
