Tahlia squared helps Aussies to another A-plus win

AUSTRALIA has picked up a second win in its women’s A series with India after an eight-wicket victory in in the second T20. India batted first and made 9/130 from its 20 overs, before Australia reached that target with 10 balls to spare.

The Indians made an okay start to their innings, but really struggled for momentum as they kept losing wickets too quickly. Their largest partnership was the 30-run sixth wicket one between Kiran Navgire and Uma Chetry.

However the top scorer came at the top of the order, with Priya Punia picking up 29 runs, which did include the only six of the innings. The next highest score was 17 not out.

Meanwhile on the bowling side, Grace Parsons was the star for the Aussies, picking up four wickets, while Nicola Hancock also had a solid innings with ball in hand, picking up three wickets. In reply, things got off to a quick start for the Australians but a cheap start as they found themselves 1/12 off nine balls.

However, everything improved from there as the next two partnerships were 52 runs and 69 runs.

It was the Tahlias that helped Australia get over the line with relative ease. Tahlia Wilson top scored for then hosts with 53 not out off 46 balls, which included six fours, while skipper Tahlia McGrath scored 47 not out off 38 balls, which included five fours and a six.

On the flipside, Meghna Singh and Minnu Mani were the only ones to pick up a wicket for India, picking up one each.

The third and final T20 of the series takes place tomorrow, before the series moves into the one day international portion of it on Wednesday.
