AUSTRALIA has whitewashed the T20 portion of its women’s A series with India after winning the third match of the series by seven wickets.
After India made 8/120 from its 20 overs, Australia then reached that target with over six overs to spare.
India could not have started its innings in a more worse way, falling to 1/0 on the second ball of the innings.
That was a sign of things to come for the tourists as big partnerships never really manifested. The sixth partnership was 57 runs, but that was the only decently sized one of the whole innings.
Kiran Navgire was the pick of the Indian batters with 38 from 20 balls, but only one other batter made it over 20 as most of the batters could not get past the mid teens.
Meanwhile for the Australians there were three leading wicket takers, with Nicola Hancock, Grace Parsons and Maitlan Brown all picked up two wickets each.
In reply Australia got its innings off to a much better start than the Indians, putting on a 43-run opening stance. The Aussies’ next partnership may have only been 12, but it was not long before the runs were flowing again and after the ultimately last Australian wicket fell, Tahlia McGrath and Tess Flintoff only needed eight more balls to get the job done.
McGrath starred with bat in hand for the Australia, producing a true captain’s knock of 51 not out from a mere 22 balls, which included eight fours and two sixes. Tahlia Wilson also had a solid day with bat in hand, making 39 off just 26 balls.
On the other side of the equation no one took multiple wickets for India, with Mannat Kashyap, Shabnam Shakil and Minnu Mani all taking one each.
The series now moves into the one day international portion of it, which kicks off on Wednesday.
