Darke’s day out ensures smooth run for Aussies

AUSTRALIA’s women’s A side just can’t stop winning, this time defeating India A by eight wickets in the second ODI of their series. India was bowled out for 218 with two overs left in their innings before Australia reached that target with just over 10 overs to spare.

India got off to a far from ideal start, falling to 1/7 in the third over.

The going did not really improve until the fourth wicket, while Tejal Hasabnis and Raghvi Bist again saved their side with a big performance, this time putting together a partnership of 124 runs. Bist went on to individually make 70, while Hasabnis made 63.

Unfortunately for the Indians that was the only partnership of their innings with any substance to it, with the next highest being 26 and they lost their last three wickets for seven runs.

Meanwhile for the hosts, three bowlers shared top wicket honours, as Maitlan Brown, Nicola Hancock and Charli Knott all took two wickets each. Tayla Vlaeminck and Grace Parsons also picked up a wicket each, with Parsons impressively pulling off a caught and bowled to record hers.

In reply, to put it simply it was the Maddy Darke show.

The young West Aussie proved impossible to remove from the crease, first combining with Katie Mack for a 131 run opening stance and then combining with Knott and then Tahlia McGrath to get the job done.

Darke went on to finish on 106 not out, in an innings that included seven fours. Mack also had a solid day at the crease, smashing five fours on her way to 68.

Meanwhile for the Indians Sayali Satghare and Tanuja Kanwer were the only ones to pick up a wicket, taking one each.

India is still looking for its first win of the series, but the Indians do not have to wait too long for their next chance to pick up a win, with the teams clashing again tomorrow.
