PREVIEW | WNCL – Season 2024/25

AFTER the excitement of the international summer getting underway last week, the women’s domestic season gets underway later today.

Once again, the team to beat will be Tasmania. After recording a three peat last season, they will once again be the ones to beat.

Once again led by Elyse Villani, the Tigers have kept essentially the same squad as last season, with only one new face and two faces departing, This means that key stars Nicola Carey, Heather Graham, Lizelle Lee and Molly Strano are all going around again in Tasmanian colours again this year, and will all be important parts to helping Tasmania potentially get a four peat.

The team that Tasmania vanquished in last season’s decider is Queensland, who returned to the final last season after a few years and will be looking to go one step further in 2024/25.

The Fire have brought in a few new faces this season, highlighted by big hitting Englishwoman Lauren Winfield-Hill, who will compliment the likes of Grace Harris, Jess Jonassen and Georgia Redmayne very well.

Victoria was the real bolter in the back end of last season and ultimately finished third on the ladder, and with Meg Lanning in the squad full time from the start of the season, it might be the side to watch this season.

Victoria also has not made too many changes to its squad, bringing in bowling pair Hasrat Gill and Sasha Moloney.

Western Australia and NSW have both been hovering around the middle of the table for a few seasons now, and will be looking to push up the ladder this season.

NSW has injected a number of new young faces into its squad for this season, while experienced heads Bhavisha Devchand and Mikayla Hinkley are among the new faces in the Western Australian squad.

South Australia and the ACT will not be happy with how last season went for them, and will be hoping this season goes far better. Particularly the Scorpions, who went from runners up to second last in the space of a season.

The season kicks off later today with Western Australia hosting Tasmania.
