Windies waltz past Bangladesh to take step towards semis
THE WEST Indies have jumped to the top of Group B at the T20 World Cup after an eight wicket win over Bangladesh.
Bangladesh was restricted to 8/103 from its 20 overs, before the West Indies reached the target on the penultimate ball of the 13th over.
Bangladesh made an okay start to its innings, going at about a run a ball before losing its first wicket, but once those wickets did start to fall things started to fall apart. In one particularly disastrous two over spell, the Bangladeshis went from 3/73 to 5/75.
Captain Nigar Sultana was the pick of the batters for Bangladesh with 39, while Dilara Akter had the next highest score on 19.
Meanwhile for the West Indies Karishma Ramharack was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Afy Fletcher took two wickets and Hayley Matthews took one.
In reply, the West Indies made a much better start to its innings, and never really lost momentum even when losing wickets, so they had plenty of time to spare when they did reach the target.
With the low total that had to be chased down, none of the West Indian batters were able to make a particularly big score individually. Matthews was ultimately the top scorer with 34.
Meanwhile for Bangladesh Nahida Akter and Marufa Akter were the only bowers able to pick up a wicket.
The West Indies will be looking to sew up top spot in the group when they play their final group match on Tuesday local time, and as that match is the final one of the entire group stage they will know exactly what they have to do to achieve that.
Bangladesh meanwhile has its final match of the group stage in a couple of days time against South Africa.
