Semis picture starting to become clearer at World Cup
LAST night’s action at the T20 World Cup saw one contender qualify for the semis, and put one in the box seat to do the same in the other group.
England thrashes neighbours, in box seat for semis berth
England has put itself in the box seat to qualify out of Group B after comfortably beating Scotland by 10 wickets.
After restricting the Scots to 6/109 from their 20 overs, England’s openers only needed 10 overs to reach the target.
The bowling performance was pretty tight from England, with only six extras conceded. Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets.
Meanwhile in the batting innings both openers had a solid day at the crease, with Maia Bouchier making 62 not out and Danni Wyatt-Hodge making 51.
Meanwhile for Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce lead the way with the bat with 33 in what was a tough finish to the tournament for the Scots.
Despite the big win its not all done and dusted for England yet. It still needs to beat the West Indies in their final group game to cement its place in the semi finals.
Defending champs first to qualify for semis
In the day’s second match of the day, defending champions Australia booked its place in the semis with a nine-run win over India.
Australia first posted 8/151 off its 20 overs, before India could only manage 9/142 from its 20 overs.
Conceding 14 extras did not help the Indians, but some big hitting from the likes of Grace Harris, Tahlia McGrath and Ellyse Perry also helped Australia get the big score it got. Meanwhile in the chase Annabel Sutherland and Sophie Molineux both picked up two wickets each.
Meanwhile for India Renuka Singh Thakur and Deepti Sharma both picked up two wickets each, while Harmanpreet Kaur again lead from the front with bat in hand, making 54 not out.
While things are now sorted for the Australians, it is now time for a nervous wait for the Indians. Thanks to the very minimal gap between themselves and New Zealand in the standings, they need fierce rival Pakistan to beat the Kiwis in the final match of Group A to ensure they too can qualify for the semis.
