Redmayne reveals excitement ahead of new WBBL journey
THE 10TH season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) kicks off tomorrow, and Brisbane Heat’s Georgia Redmayne comes into the season raring to go and in some solid form.
Speaking to the media earlier this week, she said that she was “feeling pretty good” ahead of the new WBBL season.
“I’s certainly nice to be feeling like hitting a little bit of form, but nothing really counts until we step out there in the first game and playing the real big bash comp,” Redmayne said.
The Heat have not had all their key stars in camp at once thanks to the timing of the World Cup, but the last few key players are now coming into camp.
“Grace (Harris) got in a few days ago from the World Cup, we got Nadine de Klerk flying in I think tonight, and Shikha Pandey‘s come in just from India, and then we get Jemimah Rodrigues come in after a few games,” Redmayne explained.
“We’ve got a few moving parts at the moment so it’s really exciting to have a few fresh new faces, but retain most of the general Queensland core.”
Speaking of De Klerk, the South African returns to the Heat after a few seasons away, and Redmayne is excited to play with her again.
“We’re certainly excited to have Noodle [De Klerk} back. She played a few years for us, hub year and then the year after, so I think it was 06, 07. So yeah we’re really excited to have her back,” Redmayne said.
“She’s a really great person around the group. She brings a lot of energy and just all round skills in all facets. Excited for her to land in and rejoin the group after a few years away.”
Redmayne is a staple of the competition, having played in eight of the nine previous seasons, and she has noticed how much the competition has evolved over that time.
“I think just the WBBL itself is such a driving force for professionalisation of women’s cricket and probably a lot of sports too. We’ve seen since WBBL started, we’ve had AFLW and so many other sports kind of continue that journey towards professional women’s sport which is really exciting” Redmayne said.
“And just the quality of the comp just grows, grows and grows and being able to come out and have stadium rounds and stand alone games is certainly exciting and continues to bring the best international talent, which is so important.”
