Heat reverse history to sink Strikers
The Brisbane Heat were able to exact some revenge on the Adelaide Strikers after the heartbreak of last year’s final after downing the Strikers by four wickets in the opening match of the season.
After restricting the Strikers to 5/133 from their 20 overs, the Heat then reached the target with two overs to spare.
Shikha Pandey had a debut for the Heat to remember, picking up 2/14 off her four overs, while Charli Knott was the pick of the batters with an innings of 44 not out from just 30 balls, which included five fours and a six.
Meanwhile for the Strikers Tahlia McGrath smashed 51 not out from 41 balls, including five fours and a six, while Megan Schutt picked up two wickets.
Sixers scorch Renegades
The Sydney Sixers got their campaign off to the perfect start with a three wicket win over the Melbourne Renegades in the second match of the day.
The Renegades made 8/178 from its 20 overs before the Sixers reached the target with an over to spare.
Sophie Ecclestone, Ellyse Perry and Courtney Sippel all took two wickets each for the Sixers, while Perry also top scored with 81.
Meanwhile for the Renegades Georgia Wareham smashed 61 off just 31 balls and Courtney Webb made 43, while Wareham also topped the bowling tally with three wickets and Alice Capsey took two wickets.
Perth pinches win after defending low tally
The Perth Scorchers became the third winners of the day after defeating the Melbourne Stars by 13 runs.
After they were restricted to 8/122 off their 20 overs, the Scorchers then bowled the Stars out for just 109.
Alana King led the way for those in orange with a three wicket innings, while Chloe Ainsworth picked up two wickets. Earlier Beth Mooney had made 31 with the bat while Amy Jones made 30.
Meanwhile Ines McKeon impressed on debut for the Stars with a half century with the bat, while Sophie Day had earlier taken three wickers and Kim Garth had taken two of them.
