Heat too strong again, remain undefeated to begin campaign
THE BRISBANE Heat have made it two wins from as many matches to kick off their WBBL10 campaign after defeating the Melbourne Renegades by 28 runs.
Brisbane made 8/169 from its 20 overs, before restricting the Renegades to 9/141 from their 20 overs.
Things did not go to plan early for the Heat, with the home side falling to 1/7 at the end of the first over. However, they were quick to bounce back and put on a 67 run second wicket partnership to get things back on track. There was a bit of a wobble in the middle of the innings, but another solid partnership in the fifth wicket gave the innings another boost.
Georgia Redmayne was the pick of the Heat batters with 44, while Laura Harris made 31.
Meanwhile for the Renegades Sophie Molineux and Hayley Matthews picked up two wickets each, while Georgia Wareham, Alice Capsey, Deandra Dottin and Sarah Coyte also all got in on the wickets.
The Renegades got off to a really good start, going at about 10 runs an over before they lost their first wicket. However, after losing that first wicket they then lost 4/20 to be on the ropes a bit.
This was really telling as those in red never really recovered from there, and although the Renegades’ tail had a little bit of wag in it, it was a case of too little too late.
Naomi Stalenberg was the pick of the Renegades batters with a 23 ball 38 run innings, while at the top of the order Matthews made 35.
Meanwhile young Heat star Grace Parsons topped the wicket tally for her side with three to her name, while Shikha Pandey took two wickets to keep her good start to the campaign going. Nicola Hancock and Jess Jonassen also took a wicket each.
