History does not repeat as Thunder flips result

DESPITE meeting again only a matter of days after their last WBBL10 last meeting, history did not repeat between the Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes as this time the Thunder defeated the Hurricanes by 33 runs.

After a rain delay reduced the game to 17 overs per side, the Thunder made 5/146 from their 17 overs, before the Hurricanes could only make 8/113 from their 17 overs.

The Thunder innings can be described as steady. There were no particularly dominant partnerships, but they were still able to make a pretty competitive total.

Heather Knight was the top scorer for those in lime green, falling just short of a half century, while fellow international star Chamari Athapaththu made 38.

Meanwhile for the Hurricanes Heather Graham and Nicola Carey were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets each, and although Molly Strano only took one wicket and was quite expensive, her one wicket was memorable as it was a dramatic caught and bowled.

The Hurricanes made an okay start to their chase, but were not going at a run rate that was quick enough to be able to reach the target in time. They found themselves at 4/93 in the 13th over, but then after that things really fell apart. They then lost 4/20 in the back end of the innings to fall well short of the total.

Only three batters made a double figure score for the Hurricanes, with only one further batter making more than the extras tally of 8. Heather Graham topped the tally with 31, with Elyse Villani and Lizelle Lee also making double figure scores.

Meanwhile the Thunder shared around the wicket taking duties, with every bowler used picking up at least one wicket. Hannah Darlington however was the pick of the bunch, taking three wickets.
