Perth double header lights up in very different ways

A DOUBLE header out west in the City of Lights yesterday in the WBBL produced two very different matches, with plenty of different players lighting up the field.

Sydney Thunders up big score and big win

The Sydney Thunder were the first winners yesterday, defeating the Brisbane Heat by 19 runs.

After posting a whopping 5/17, the Thunder then restricted the Heat to just 151 before bowling them out at the start of the final over.

The Thunder’s leaders really led the way with the bat, with Heather Knight making 59 not out and Phoebe Litchfield making 40. Sam Bates also took four wickets, while Taneale Peschel and Chamari Athapaththu took two wickets each.

Meanwhile for the Heat Jess Jonassen topped the wicket taking tally with three wickets to her name, while Charli Knott (55) and Grace Harris (41) were the only ones to make any kind of score with the bat. Knott and Harris were also the only batters to make a double figure score for their side.

Low score low worries as Perth hold on for dramatic win

In the second match of the day it was the Perth Scorchers who emerged victorious, downing the Melbourne Renegades by two runs in a tight finish.

In a match where the bowlers really dominated, the Scorchers only made 108 before being bowled out, but thanks to some strong bowling of their own it proved to be a higher enough tally.

Alana King was the star with the ball for the home side with three wickets to her name, while Chloe Ainsworth and Sophie Devine took two each and Amy Edgar picked up one.

Meanwhile for the Renegades Alice Capsey starred with ball in hand with a five wicket haul, while Milly Illingworth and Hayley Matthews picked up two wickets each.
