Lee launches Perth bowlers while Sydney turns lime green
YESTERDAY was another double header of action in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), which brought big scores and big wins across both matches.
Hurricanes Scorch Perth
The Hobart Hurricanes have picked up a big win, downing the Perth Scorchers by 72 runs in the first match yesterday.
Hobart posted a massive 3/203 off its 20 overs, before bowling out the Scorchers for 131 with half an over left in the Scorchers’ 20 overs.
The Hurricanes have Lizelle Lee to thank for their huge score, with the South African whacking 150 not out from just 75 balls, in an innings that included 12 fours and a whopping 12 sixes. Meanwhile in the defence Heather Graham picked up three wickets, while Molly Strano and Lauren Smith picked up two wickets each.
Meanwhile for the Scorchers Chloe Ainsworth nabbed two wickets and also made 41 runs to give the Scorchers’ tail a bit of life in it.
Sydney turns green in crosstown derby
The day’s section match saw a Sydney Derby, and unlike in the Melbourne Derby it was the green side of town who emerged victorious, with the Thunder downing the Sixers by 18 runs.
The Thunder posted 6/158 from their 20 overs before bowling the Sixers out for 140 with two balls left in the Sixers innings.
With the bat, the Thunder were led from the front by Heather Knight (50), Phoebe Litchfield (34) and Chamari Athapaththu (33). With the ball, Sam Bates continued her brilliant start to the year, picking up another three wickets, while Taneale Peschel, Hannah Darlington and Athapaththu all picked up two wickets each.
Meanwhile for the Sixers Amelia Kerr picked up a pair of wickets and made the second highest score for her side with 21, only outscored by 49 from Ash Gardner, who also picked up a wicket.
