Top two keep winning to set up enthralling decider
YESTERDAY’S first day of finals at the 2024 Under 19 Female National Championships did not provide too many surprises, but did set up a very entertaining final day of competition.
Today will see a Grand Final, a third place playoff and more round robin matches for those who did not make the top four. Those extra non finals matches will see the ACT play Tasmania again, Papua New Guinea play Vic Country and Vic Metro take on Western Australia.
PLACING MATCHES
In the ninth place playoff, it was Papua New Guinea who picked up their second win of the tournament after a 37 run win over Tasmania.
The seventh place playoff was a bit more of a surprise result, with the ACT overpowering Western Australia by one wicket after reaching the target of 254 with two and a half overs to spare.
In the fifth place playoff it was an all-Victorian affair, with Vic Metro who got the better of their country counterparts, winning by six overs with a whole five overs to spare.
SEMI-FINALS
Queensland vs NSW Country
Queensland won through to the Grand Final of the 2024 Under 19 National Championships after comprehensively beating NSW Country to the tune of 136 runs. Queensland made 7/215 before a stellar bowling performance saw them bowl out Country for just 79 inside 30 overs.
Lucinda Bourke (68) and Grace Collins (67) starred with the bat for Queensland, before Amreen Kahlon took four wickets and Ruby Orchard took three. For Country Caoimhe Bray and Sophie Parsons took two wickets each.
NSW Metro vs South Australia
Things went a lot better for Country’s Metro counterparts, who beat South Australia by 58 runs to also progress to the final. NSW Metro made 209 before then bowling out the South Australians for 151.
Kate Pelle (60) starred at the top of the order for Metro, before Olivia Callaghan and Juliette Morton took a pair of wickets each. Sanigdha Bansal and Matilda Maitland took two wickets each for the vanquish South Australians.
