THE FINAL day of the 2024 Under 19 Female National Championships was a positive one for the state of New South Wales, with the state’s Metro and Country sides winning the overall title and the third place playoff respectively
METRO COME OUT ON TOP TO TAKE TITLE
NSW Metro are the Under 19 National Champions for 2024, after defeating Queensland by 82 runs in the final yesterday. Metro first posted a solid score of 6/260 from its 50 overs, before they bowled Queensland out for just 178.
Metro’s top order had a strong day at the crease, with Kate Pelle (75), Olivia Callaghan (54), Olivia Maxwell (44) and Lucy Finn (43) all putting solid innings together. Later the bowlers shared the wicket taking duties around, with Gunisha Garg taking three wickets and Callaghan, Emily Powell and Ella Briscoe all taking two each.
For Queensland Lilli Hamilton and Ruby Orchard took a pair of wickets each, while much of its score with the bat came through openers Lily Bassingthwaighte (56) and Lucinda Bourke (40).
COUNTRY OVERCOME SOUTH AUSTRALIA TO FINISH THIRD
In the third place playoff, NSW Country made it two for two for the NSW sides with an eight wicket win over South Australia. Country first bowled out South Australia for just 82 in only 25 overs, before reaching the target themselves halfway through the 16th over.
Country’s Ava Drury and Sophie Parsons took three wickets each while Caoimhe Bray picked up a pair of wickets. For South Australia Matilda Maitland was the only one to pick up any wickets in what was a tough day way to finish what was at times a pretty promising tournament for the South Australians.
OTHER RESULTS
The ACT, Vic Country and Western Australia all finished their tournaments on a high, taking away wins in the consolation matches. ACT defeated Tasmania by nine wickets, Vic Country beat Papua New Guinea by 10 wickets in a dominant display, while tournament hosts WA beat Vic Metro by 70 runs.
