A decent platform was laid by the openers when Webb came to the crease. Ellie Johnston (40 off 29) was first departing with nine overs down, followed three overs later by her partner Bridget Patterson (35 off 36).

Johnston’s innings was enterprising, hitting eight fours to get her strike rate to 137.93. After Hollie Armitage got out posting a lean total (two off three), Madeline Penna (27 off 36) and Annie O’Neil (32 off 31) both got starts with bat in hand.

It was Amanda-Jade Wellington that assisted Webb in the final chase for the total, claiming victory after making an unbeaten 25 off 19 balls.

For the Victorian bowlers it was the usual wicket-takers that were in effect on Friday. Ella Hayward (2-35 off eight) was riding high after her performance in the previous fixture posting the most economical figures for her side.

Spinner Sophie Day also got two wickets, getting the poles of both Patterson and Armitage, Milly Illingworth was also in touch, getting the crucial scalp of Johnston.

In the first innings, it was former Australian Women’s cricket captain Meg Lanning that top-scored with a-run-a-ball 89 not out. Her total included a game-high 11 fours to set her side up nicely.

Prior to her effort, it was openers Nicole Faltum (16 off 19) and Sophie Reid (one off 13), that had a tough starts before Hayward starred again. The latter came in at three, adding 55 runs from 69 deliveries with seven fours, she was knocked over by Wellington who had a great day with the ball for SA.

After Hayward, the home side struggled to contribute with Olivia Henry (18 off 15) and Rhys McKenna (29 off 35) particularly having trouble continuing after getting a start on the pitch.

They were bowled out for 241 inside 46 overs, with Lanning stranded without a partner after Illingworth fell for two.

The pick of the bowlers for the visitors was youngster Eleanor Larosa who took the scalps of Reid, Faltum and Day. Wellington added three of her own, removing Hayward, Georgia Prestwidge and Sasha Moloney.

Young pacer Emmerson Filsell took two scalps, as did all-rounder Penna.
