Aussies demolish hosts in warm up win

THE AUSSIE Under 19 girls have had a perfect first tune up for the World Cup after beating tournament hosts Malaysia overnight.

The Aussie girls initially made 5/161, before bowling out their hosts for a mere 21.

It was a solid enough start to their batting innings for the Australians, going at  pretty quick pace, but they did lose wickets at a fairly regular enough interval, to the tune of every five overs or so. They did however go at a quicker pace in the second half of the innings compared to the first half, only scoring 74 runs in the first 10 overs compared to 87 in the second 10.

Queenslander Lucy Hamilton had a bit of a captain’s knock, belting 52 off just 41 balls in an innings that included five fours and a six.

Victorian Hasrat Gill also had a solid bat, scoring 41 off just 28 balls, while Caoimhe Bray made a quick fire 26.

Meanwhile for the Malaysians it was captain Nur Dania Syuhada who was the star with ball in hand, picking up three wickets.

In the reply, falling to 1/4 halfway through the third over really was a sign of what was to come for the Malaysians. The Aussies were ruthless as the Malaysians found themselves unable to even put a single double digit partnership on the board.

The Australian bowling was so tight that no bowler conceded more than 2.5 runs per over. However the wicket taking duties were so evenly spread that only Eleanor Larosa took more than one wicket.

Among the other winners of practise matches overnight were India, Pakistan, the USA and Ireland.

The team has one more tune up match against Pakistan before the tournament proper kicks off this weekend. Australia’s first match of the actual tournament in on Saturday against Scotland, beginning at 1:30pm AEDT.
