Warriors waltz to first win after dominant bowling display

WESTERN Australia is finally on the board this WNCL season after defeating New South Wales by seven wickets at the WACA Ground yesterday.

The home side bowled New South Wales out for just 102, before reaching the target part way through the 27th over.

Losing the first wicket on the first ball of the innings really was a sign of what was to come for the Breakers. They fell to 2/2 three balls later and things were dire.

The third wicket fell with 47 runs on the board, but that proved to be the one decent partnership of the innings as only three others surpassed double digits.

Chief destroyer with the ball for Western Australia was Amy Edgar, who picked up four wickets, while Taneale Peschel snared a pair.

Meanwhile for the Breakers, Elsa Hunter (30) and Claire Moore (25) were the only New South Wales batters to get some sort of start, as only two others made a double digit score.

In reply, despite only needing to go at about two runs per over, Western Australia ticked over at about double that to cruise to their target.

Maddy Darke backed up her exploits the other day with another solid day in the middle, this time posting 49 not out.

Meanwhile for the Breakers, Lauren Cheatle, Sam Bates and Sarah Coyte picked up a wicket each.

Western Australia is now one win behind sixth placed ACT, while the Breakers are still in third, but a win would have seen them move atop the WNCL ladder.
