VICTORIA has pulled off a second narrow WNCL win over Western Australia in three days, this time saluting by one wicket.
Western Australia first made 8/275 from its 50 overs, before Victoria then reached that target with merely two balls to spare in its innings.
Mikayla Hinkley was the leader with the bat for WA, making 83 off just 78 balls. Earlier in the innings, Chloe Piparo put together 77 in another stellar performance.
Meanwhile for the Victorians, Ella Hayward and Georgia Prestwidge were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets each, while Sophie Day, Jasmine Nevins and Samara Dulvin also got in on the wicket taking fun.
Victoria had a wobbly start to its run chase, but a 119-run third wicket partnership got things back on track.
As things got close towards the end, things started to slow for the hosts and they found themselves facing a similar situation to what they had two days prior.
They scored 10 runs off the 48th over, but only two off the penultimate over, so needed seven off the set of six. A well struck four off the first ball eased the pressure, but two dot balls then raised it again. The Vics then scored a three off the fourth ball of the over to get the job done.
The best of Victoria’s batting was a case of the experienced versus the youth. Meg Lanning led the way with 95 off just 79 balls, while later in the innings Tess Flintoff posted 77 not out.
Meanwhile for Western Australia, Zoe Britcliffe again led the way with ball in hand as she and Amy Edgar took three wickets each.
