2025 WIPL PREVIEW | UP Warriorz

THIS week the 2025 edition of the Indian Women’s Premier League (IWPL) kicks off, and ahead of the tournament Rookie Me Central will take a look at each squad to highlight a bunch of key players to look out for.

In today’s final preview, it is time to take a look at the UP Warriorz.

Much like the Gujarat Giants, last season was not the easiest for the Warriorz. They were only able to pick up three wins for the seasons, and as such were unable to feature in the finals.

One other thing that does not help the Warriorz is that although they do have some big name top end talents in their line up, there is not as many as some of the other sides have.

That list got even less a few weeks ago when it was confirmed captain Alyssa Healy would not play the tournament because of a persistent injury, and she was replaced in the side by West Indian Chinelle Henry.

In Healy’s place experienced Indian star Deepti Sharma will captain the side, and will be one of the most important members of the Warriorz bowling line up, alongside the likes of Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

They may have lost a talent Aussie for this edition, but they have gained another in Alana King who is finally playing in the IWPL after several attempts to get on a list. She is arguably one of if not the most inform cricketer in the world at the moment and with her being a spinner, she should relish in the conditions.

King is not the only Aussie pulling on the UP kit this season, with Grace Harris and Tahlia McGrath both coming back from last season.

Someone else coming back this season is Sophie Ecclestone, but after the way the recent Ashes series went she would love nothing more than to absolutely star this series.

In terms of local talents, Shweta Sehrawat will be one to keep an eye on. She may be young, but has already proven she can be a prolific scorer at the top of the order.
