Dramatic final day sees WNCL Finalists decided

IT WAS a dramatic final day of the 2024/25 WNCL season, with it coming down to the final over of the final match of the season to determine who would make the decider.
TASMANIA WINS, BUT TITLE DEFENCE OVER
In what turned out to be the only dead rubber of the day, Tasmania ended its season with a 30-run win over Victoria.
Coming into the day with faint but still very alive hopes of making the final, Tasmania did as much as it could unfortunately other results did not go its way so its triple title defence has come to an end.
Batting slightly down the order compared to usual, Elyse Villani made 110 off just 104 balls to help guide Tasmania to 8-259, before Molly Strano (three wickets) and Nicola Carey (two wickets) helped the home side bowl out the Vics for just 229.
For the aforementioned Vics Tess Flintoff top scored with 80, while Sophie Day (three wickets) and Sasha Moloney (two wickets) were the pick of their bowlers.
NSW WIN BUT FORCED INTO NERVOUS WAIT FOR FATE
New South Wales has returned to the WNCL Final for the first time since the 2019/20 season after defeating the ACT Meteors by eight wickets yesterday.
Initially chasing 266 for victory, the Breakers were 2-140 when rain disrupted play. After the rain cleared, NSW needed just three from 12 balls, which they easily achieved. However, they did not earn a bonus point from the result, which saw them nervously awaiting the result of the match out west to determine whether they would be making the WNCL Final or not.
Sammy-Jo Johnson and Hannah Darlington both took a pair of wickets for NSW, before the likes of Elsa Hunter (42) did the job with the bat. Meanwhile for the Meteors. Grace Lyons (97) and Shivani Mehta (53) led the way with the bat.
SA BLOW GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY
South Australia blew a golden opportunity to make a return back to the WNCL after going down to Western Australia by just six runs.
The Scorpions were on track to reach their target of 255, but as their innings progressed their run rate slowed and the wickets piled up. They needed 12 runs from the last over and although they did not get bowled out, they only made five of the required runs, falling agonisingly short.
Maddy Darke (86) and Bhavisha Devchand (81) starred with the bat for Western Australia, before Amy Edgar took four wickets and Lilly Mills took two.
For South Australia Amanda-Jade Wellington took a trio of wickets, while Bridget Patterson also made 43 with the bat. Jemma Barsby meanwhile took two wickets and made 54 not out with the bat and tried her hardest to get her team over the line but just fell short.
