THE DELHI Capitals have continued their winning run, this time defeating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by nine wickets to become the first team to qualify for this season’s finals.

Chasing 148 for victory, the innings started pretty disastrously for Delhi, falling to 1-5 about halfway through the third over. But, that was quickly forgotten when Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen then went on to put on a 146 run second wicket partnership to get the job done in 15 and a half overs.

Jonassen smacked nine fours and a six on her way to 61 off just 38 balls, while Verma went even quicker. She smacked eight fours and four sixes on her way to 80 off just 43 balls.

Earlier the Royal Challengers made a pretty good start to their innings – making a 44 run second wicket partnership and a 66 run third wicket partnership – but slowed the scoring down significantly towards the back end of the innings.

Ellyse Perry was the back end of the Royal Challengers’ innings, making 60 runs off just 47 balls. On the other side of the equation, both N Charani and Shikha Pandey picked up a pair of wickets each.

Delhi has about a week to wait to keep their winning momentum going, before their next match against Gujarat. The Royal Challengers meanwhile are in a serious form slump at the moment, but have to wait until next weekend for their next chance to end the slump.
