GUJARAT Giants continue to spice things up this Women’s Indian Premier League, this time toppling the ladder leading Delhi Capitals to the tune of five wickets.
Set the not particularly easy target of 178 for victory, Harleen Deol and Beth Mooney got the innings going after a poor start, putting together an 85-run partnership in just over nine overs.
Two wickets in two balls in the third last over did leave the fans a little bit nervy for the Giants, but they ultimately reached the target nine balls later, going at about two runs per ball.
Deol led the charge for the Giants, smashing 70 off just 49 balls. Mooney was an able assistant, scoring 44 off just 35 balls.
Earlier the Capitals had the opposite problem to the Giants. Meg Lanning (92 off 57) and Shafali Verma (40 off 27) put on an 83 run opening partnership, but as the innings progressed things started to slow.
From a bowling perspective, Meghna Singh picked up a trio of wickets for Gujarat, and was ably assisted by a pair of wickets from Deandra Dottin. Later Shikha Pandey and Jess Jonassen both took a pair of wickets each for the Capitals.
