Mixed day for the two sides of Sydney’s WBBL divide
YESTERDAY’s action in the WBBL brought very different results for the two Sydney sides, with the Thunder making it two consecutive wins, while the Stars their first victory of the campaign.
Thunder make it two on the trot with huge score
The Sydney Thunder have made it two wins in as many days after defeating the Adelaide Strikers by 64 runs. The Thunder belted 5/212 from their 20 overs before bowling the Strikers out for just 148 with four balls left in their innings.
Georgia Voll belted 92 off just 55 balls to be a real backbone of the Thunder innings, and was well assisted by Phoebe Litchfield, who made 49 off 31 balls. Meanwhile in the defence Samantha Bates continued her great start to the campaign with another four wickets to her name, while Shabnim Ismail nabbed three wickets.
Meanwhile for the Strikers Orla Prendergast continued her great start to her maiden WBBL campaign with three wickets, while in the chase Katie Mack made 51 at the top of the order.
Stars on the board after dominant win
The Melbourne Stars on the board in WBBL10 after a dominant win over the Sydney Sixers.
The Melbourne Stars made 4/195 in their 20 overs, and the Sixers were floundering at 4/56 before a rain delay ultimately brought the match to a premature close, handing the Stars a 32 run win under the Duckworth Lewis Method.
Meg Lanning (58 not out) and Rhys McKenna (52) really set up the Stars’ big score, before Kim Garth, Tess Flintoff, Sophie Day and Annabel Sutherland all struck with ball in hand.
Meanwhile Ellyse Perry was the one really keeping the innings together for the Sixers and was the only one making any score as her team mates were all getting dismissed cheaply around her.
