Batters delight sees huge Hurricane tally

RUNS are not hard to find for the Hobart Hurricanes at the moment, who again compiled a massive to this time defeat the Adelaide Strikers by 28 runs.

After Hobart posted 2/191 from its 20 overs, Adelaide gave it a real crack to reach the target, but could only muster 3/163.

Things did not get off to a great start for the Hurricanes, who fell to 1/3 at the end of the first over. But, things turned around dramatically after that as Lizelle Lee and Nicola Carey posted a 133 run partnership off 13 and a half overs to turn things around.

Lee is in some scarily good form at the moment, this time blasting 103 from just 59 falls in an innings that included 13 fours and four sixes. Carey also had a solid day at the crease, making 64 not out off just 46 balls in an innings that included seven fours and a six.

Meanwhile for the Scorchers Megan Schutt was the only one to pick up a wicket, with the other wicket to fall being a run out to Jemma Barsby.

In what turned out to be a very batter friendly deck, the Strikers certainly gave chasing down that monster target a red hot crack, but unfortunately were just unable to maintain the pace needed to reach the target. They started pretty well, jumping out to 67 before losing their first wicket halfway through the eighth over, before then falling to 2/83 three overs later, and 3/93 just over two overs later, which was ultimately their undoing.

Laura Wolvaardt was the backbone of the Strikers innings with a 40 ball innings of 63 not out, while Smriti Mandhana also impressed with 51 off just 32 balls.

Meanwhile for the Hurricanes their wicket takers were Molly Strano, Lauren Smith and Amy Smith.
