Renegades book finals as Scorchers and Sixers can’t be split

IT WAS back to a double header of action yesterday in the Women’s Big Bash League yesterday, and the two matches produced very different results.

SIXERS AND SCORCHERS UNABLE TO BE SPLIT

In the first draw of the season, the Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers could not be split.

Perth was bowled out for 126, and despite needing 12 runs off the last over the Sixers almost pulled it off before falling just short.

Then in the Super Over, the Sixers made 0/15 before the Scorchers made 1/15 from their Super Over.

In the main innings, Perth’s two big scores came from Beth Mooney (44) and Brooke Halliday (41), while with the ball Alana King took three wickets.

Meanwhile for the Sixers Ash Gardner was chief destroyer with the ball with four wickets, while Amelia Kerr and Courtney Sippel took a pair of wickets each. Later Ellyse Perry did a lot of the heavy lifting with the bat, making 67 off 53 balls.

RENEGADES BOOK SPOT IN LAST FOUR

In the day’s second match, the Melbourne Renegades booked their spot in the finals with a 22 run win over the Hobart Hurricanes.

The Renegades made 5/150 from their 20 overs, before the Hurricanes could only muster 8/128 from theirs.

Georgia Wareham was the core of the Renegades success with the bat, after she smashed 9 off just 45 balls, in an innings that included six fours and three sixes. Later Sophie Molineux picked up a pair of wickets, while Deandra Dottin, Charis Bekker, Hayley Matthews and Milly Illingworth also getting amongst the wickets.

Meanwhile for the Hurricanes Nicola Carey was the pick of the bowlers with a trio of wickets to her name, with Molly Strano and Lauren Smith also picking up a wicket. Unfortunately for those in purple things were not as successful with the bat, with Elyse Villani’s 36 the best of the lot.
