Heat book second consecutive final after Thunder collapse
SYDNEY Thunder were outclassed in the batting stakes by Brisbane Heat to ensure they would lineup in their second consecutive WBBL final.
Facing the Renegades in Melbourne on Sunday, the Heat have now won six games in a row, setting up a tantalising match-up.
Winning the match by nine wickets, the victory was set up by Georgia Redmayne (51 off 41 balls), Jemimah Rodrigues (43 off 30) and Charli Knott (19 off 16) in the pursuit of their target of 134 runs.
Rodrigues came in at first drop after Grace Harris (seven runs) was out cheaply. Rodrigues and Redmayne managed to get their side to amass 89 runs with 10 overs completed.
Rodrigues retired injured after the drinks break after landing on her left wrist, which was strapped earlier on in the innings. The Heat still required 45 runs in the second half, with Redmayne and Knott reaching the target as the latter brought up her first half-century of the season.
In the first innings, the Thunder had a shaky start with the bat collapsing to 7-69. At the 10 over mark, Sydney had only managed 3-55, with captain Phoebe Litchfield (15) and Georgia Adams making this 5-56 in one over.
Hannah Darlington (40 not out from 29) and bowler Taneale Peschel (an unbeaten 24 from 16) managed to resurrect the total, while posting a WBBL record eighth-wicket partnership of 67.
For the Heat, it was youngster Grace Parsons‘s tidy spell (3-10 off three overs), that netted her the Player of the Match.
